Sing or Die!
It's Official: The Texas Karaoke Invitational Smackdown
You asked for it and you got it: on Sunday, January 11th at the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz, the best teams from the Downtown and North Austin divisions will face off in a battle royale to be named the Ultimate Karaoke Stars of Texas. The show will start around 9, and will be over around midnight.
(Now, before I hear a bunch of whining about having to work on Monday morning, let me remind you--this is just a one time thing, parking downtown will be way easier on a Sunday, and we're giving you two months notice!)
Ok, now that that's out of the way, here are a few more details on the event:
-Instead of having the audience vote, we will be having a panel of judges who will rate each performance on a scorecard. But, it's still important to have your friends come, as one of the categories on the ballot will be "crowd response".
-Each team will compete in three rounds: one solo, one roulette, and one group.
-The teams with an automatic bid to the invitational will be: You Better Don't from Spring 2008, The Sexy Sextursons from Summer 2008, The Smokin' Sixpacks from Summer 2008, the winner of Wednesday's North Austin finals, and the winner of Thursday's Downtown Austin finals
-The Jason Vines Rule: If a person was on more than one winning team, they may decide which team they wish to compete as a part of, but may only compete for one team.
-The Jeffrey Dahmer Rule: If four or more members of a team become repeat champions, all members of that team and their previous winning team will be combined into one team for the Invitational; the runner-up team will receive a bid to the Invitational in their place.
-Three other team spots will be available for the competition. Each team must consist of at least 4 people. Interested teams, regardless of whether they competed together in the past or were even in the league in the past, can e-mail in for a chance to receive an at-large bid. More info on this process coming later.
-The captain is responsible for making sure everyone on his/her team buys a ticket so that they will be let in on the night of the show. More info on this coming later.
So, we're still working out all the details for you, but basically, this event is going to be REALLY FREAKING AWESOME. Mark your calendars, and watch your e-mail for more details as they come about.
